Kenyans that reside near the Thika Road Mall (TRM) will from next month enjoy discounts and access to a value of products thanks to Carrefour opening its third store at TRM following the closure of Nakumatt Supermarkets.
The new hypermarket will cover over 5,000 square metres selling area and will cater for the growing population segment residing in Roysambu and Kasarani as well as those travelling along the busy Thika Road, towards Central and parts of Eastern Kenya.
It will cover two floors of the mall whose construction was completed in 2013, with the projection of starting operations at the upper level of the mall next month, and having full operations on both floors by mid-2018.
“The opening of our third Carrefour store in less than two years of operations illustrates our ambitious growth and expansion plans in the region. This new hypermarket will offer our customers who use the busy highway access to wide variety of products at the most competitive prices, offered at world-class standards,” said Franck Moreau, Country Manager, at Majid Al Futtaim – Retail Kenya.
“Additionally, with our expansion we are collaborating with local manufacturers and farmers to sell their produce. We are looking to stock over 30,000 items at the hypermarket, including fresh produce, groceries, electronics, a fresh bakery, and a butchery, among other merchandise as we continue to deliver on creating great moments for everyone, every day.”
Majid Al Futtaim, the exclusive franchisee for Carrefour, currently works with over 640 suppliers, local manufacturers, producers and farmers, which contribute to the overall economic growth in Kenya both directly and indirectly. Only one of the suppliers is foreign.
The retail store, which opened its first supermarket in 2016 at the Hub Karen, has become quite popular with customers due to its priority counters for expectant mothers, a first in Kenya and providing trolleys with comfortable baby seats for parents with toddlers keeping them grounded as they shop.
Its second store is located at the Two Rivers Mall.
