Find it: kites

Kids love kites and the feeling that comes with using the power of the wind to lift those pretty things up and decorate the sky. In find it this week; we list some of the outlets stocking kites of different sizes and designs for kids.

Kites come in different designs; including diamonds, dragons, box and cellular kites among others; and come in different sizes for all ages including grown ups.

The kites are believed to date back some 3000 years; but our search found out they are not so popular in Nairobi with only a few outlets stocking them.

China is believed to be the origin of kites since the earliest written records are from China; and maretials for making them were readily available. The kite was made using Bamboo for the frame, and silk for the sail and bridle; and had a mythical and religious dimension. This was later experimented as a science instrument for various researches; and was eventually was reproduced throughout Asia, then later in Europe i 13th century  before spreading to  America, Australia and other countries.

In Nairobi, kites can be found at Toy World, a toy store with branches at the village Market, Yaya Centre, Sarit and ABC Place;stocking kites of different sizes including ones for grown ups. Kites ideal for kids cost between Sh550 and Sh2000 depending on the size; while for grown ups cost up to Sh8000.

Nakumatt supermarket also sells kites for kids with prizes ranging between Sh300 and Sh1995 depending on the size.

Find it: baby shoes

Baby shoes help protect babies from sharp objects and support their body weight so they form a correct gait, but good shoes for tinies can be hard to track down. In ‘find it’ this week we list some of the outlets stocking baby shoes.

Find it: helmets

Wearing a helmet during sports, be it when cycling, roller skating or horse riding, helps reduce the risk of head injuries incase of a  collision or a fall; as most of the impact energy will be absorbed by the helmet. Our find it this week lists some of the outlets selling helmets for various sports.

Nairobi’s store for secondhand fancy costumes

Kate’s collections, an open air second hand store for fancy costumes is now giving parents a chance to ensure their kids have fun, great photos and memories during parties; as they dress in their favourite character costumes, now available at the store.

Find it: gas balloons

Balloons are great with kids’ parties not only as decorations, but also as party favours and for party games as well. Gas balloons are a favorite for many because of their buoyancy but quite rare to find; and kenyakidz just discovered where to find them.
