| Star Jump takes bungee trampolining thrill to Mombasa |
|
The Star Jump crew will soon be introducing a new branch in Nyali, Mombasa, to give the coast Kids and adults as well a chance to experience the thrill of a mobile bungee trampoline; that allows participants go high up in the air and do flips without necessarily being acrobats; giving them a mixture of joy and shock experience.
Started in November 2008,star jump bungee trampoline is a safe and fun activity suitable for all ages; but mostly an attraction for kids. Caesar says he started star jump because he realized there was shortage of kids’ entertainment especially new things with those available being the usual things such bouncy castles. The crew now has double unit bungee trampolines at Prestige plaza and Capital Centre Mombasa Road, and four units at Westgate and the junction; with each of the branches attracting up to fifty kids on a busy day especially over the weekends. They also have a mobile unit for taking to birthday parties and other events; within Nairobi for a fee of Sh25,000 for a single unit and Sh40,000 for a 4 unit. Open to kids from two years to adults with a weight limit of 70kgs; the bungee trampoline allows one to jump up to 22 ft; but the height can be adjusted for kids who are scared. One wears a harness that is attached to some bungee cords on both sides. The cords in turn attach to some vertical poles; and through a power driven mortar that is some form of a lift system; one is hoisted up and high as you jump on the trampoline ; allowing one to jump higher than one would by himself. Kids scream in excitement as they jump higher and higher; with a minder on each trampoline helping them and playfully trying to catch their legs, which makes the game even more exciting. ‘It’s very exhilarating and a good stress relief’ says Caesar. I finally decide to give it a try though am a bit scared of heights, but true to Caesar’s words, it’s an exhilarating experience and its gives you such adrenalin rush that I can’t help screaming either! Caesar explains than one can even do front and back flips as well as other moves safely; and one of the minders actually demonstrates. A jam session lasts seven minutes but it feels like such along time on this enjoyable gravity defying ride; and I make a promise to myself to go back and try the flips. Besides being fun and a healthy and safe exercise, bungee trampolining also boosts one’s confidence. ‘it also a very good stress relief ‘ emphasizes Caesar. Star jump operates from1pm t0 9pm on weekdays and from 10am to 9pm on weekends on all branches. Charges are Sh400 at Westgate and The Junction; and Sh300 at the Capital Centre and prestige plaza; per jam session. There are 17 child minders in all the four branches, all trained in handling the kids. For more details on star Jump contact Caesar on 0733 338 33 or email
